About the Naturalist, Lexi Stine before joining Yampatika her career spanned 10 seasons with the US Forest Service including 3 seasons as a Wildland Firefighter in Northern California. She also worked in archeology, winter recreation, trails, and as a Wilderness Ranger in Arizona, Wilderness Ranger/trails in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of Northern Minnesota, campgrounds, and locally on the Routt National Forest in Timber Management.

Meeting time: 745 AM, we will return to our vehicles at the trailhead by 11 AM, you should be back to town by noon.
Meeting place: 925 Weiss Drive, Steamboat Springs, CO, 80487; the US Forest Service building
Destination: Silver Creek Fire from 2018 accessed via the Sarvis Creek Trail in the Sarvis Creek Wilderness
DRIVETIME: the trailhead from the meeting location is about 1 hour drive time, 15 miles on highway 40 and 15 miles on Forest Road 100, a very scenic and well-maintained dirt road.
DIFFICULTY OF HIKE: this area has very little elevation gain, the trail rolls along.

What to wear: Dress for the weather (current and future) and dress in layers! Many people like to wear long pants/sleeves to protect yourself from the sun, dirt, and things that might make you itchy (mosquitos, etc.). Avoid cotton when you’re able and go with a synthetic material or wool. Also remember to wear sturdy hiking shoes, good socks, a cool sun hat, and sunscreen!
What to bring in your day pack: 2 Water bottles, snacks, sunscreen, extra layers (long sleeve shirt, fleece) and also bring your waterproof jacket- weather changes quickly, make sure to come for cooler/wet weather
