A late-season snowshoe route off the trail is a special treat before snowshoeing season disappears.

Description

Important details:

 

  • AGES 18+ 
  • Where do you meet: At the trailhead "West Summit"- travel east of Steamboat Springs on Highway 40 approximately 13 miles to the West Summit Trailhead on Rabbit Ears Pass, about a 20-minute drive from town **Google Maps will not pull up the trailhead if you search for it, this LINK is set directly to the trailhead location. There are two parking lots along the highway, turn into the left side to park.
  • What time and how long is the tour: arrive at 6:30 pm to get snowshoes and sign a waiver. The program will set off at 6:45 pm and return to the parking lot at 8:45 pm. Time may change closer to the program, you will be notified.
  • Cost: $20 (includes snowshoes if needed - please indicate when signing up if you will need them)
  • Location: Rabbit Ears Pass
  • Transportation: there is no provided transportation, you will not be able to ride the bus. A car or taxi is the only recommendation for transportation.
  • What to wear: (you will be warm snowshoeing up as the sun sets – but bring extra layers, as it will get cold!)
    • Waterproof winter boots and wool socks
    • Waterproof pants or gators over your pants
    • Dress in layers and avoid cotton!
    • Wear warm hat and gloves/mittens
  • What to bring in your daypack:
    • Water bottles (1-2 liters) and snacks help when it’s cold
    • Extra layers (fleece or down jacket, and a waterproof/windproof jacket, thick mittens)
    • Hand/toe warmers (optional for people who get cold hands/feet)
    • Bring a headlamp if you have one in case the sky is overcast!

  • Please call before the program starts & leave a voicemail to let us know- do not attend the program, we will issue a full refund.
  • If you do not call and do not show up we will not issue a refund.
